Omega J8004 Nutrition Center Commercial Masticating Juicer, White

Omega J8004 Nutrition Center Commercial Masticating Juicer, White

Omega J8004 Nutrition Center Commercial Masticating Juicer, White
Identical to the J8006, better than the J8005, and a most cost-effective juicer for greens
UPDATE: As of March 11, 2013, the J8006 (identical, but with a chrome look), was temporarily $209 on Amazon (sold by Amazon, itself). This had always been a more expensive color. Please be sure to compare and buy strictly on price between these two models. Enjoy!

My wife and I have had this for two months of intense juicing of cabbage and occasionally broccoli. My wife had multiple stomach and duodenal ulcers from medications due to a spinal injury and we combed the internet looking for studies on the best home remedies, as prescription antacids were not healing her. We chanced across two studies on raw cabbage juice healing ulcers in a matter of weeks, so that led me to research juicers.

There are four basic types of juicers. In order of general effectiveness (least effective to most effective) on greens, they are as follows:

1. Spinning blade/centrifugal ($50-$200)
2. Single-gear masticating (like this one) ($200-$350)
3. Double-gear...

The Great Masticator: Omega 8004/8006 perfect for lazy first-time juicers like me

An Awesome Juicer & Great Investment
This is my first juicer and I am thrilled I made the right choice. I researched for about a month before I got my tax return and pulled the trigger, and it has turned out to be a great investment in my health. The machine is extremely durable as it has a full 15 year warranty. This is exactly the same model as the Omega J8006 that everyone loves so much (according to reviews) with the only difference being that it's white. A cosmetic difference but I'd rather keep the 40 bucks and be a little less fancy personally. Works great with everything I've thrown at it so far from wheatgrass to celery to carrots, apples, yams, pears, kiwis, zucchini, ginger, you name it. The only exception and this was an early mistake I made after I first got it and that is you don't want to juice bananas. Too mushy and just makes a mess. Extremely easy to take apart and clean though so within 5 minutes it was clean and ready to go again. Pulp comes out very dry so it is very efficient as well. All in all I...

Omega J8004 Nutrition Center Single-Gear Low Speed Masticating Juicer, White

The Omega J8004 Nutrition Center is a masticating style juicer. Sometimes referred to as a low speed juicer, the Nutrition Center processes at 80rpm, whereas most other juicers process at a speed of 1,650 to 15,000rpm. The low speed protects and maintains healthy enzymes, prevents oxidation and allows juice to be stored up to 72 hours without degradation. The GE Ultem Auger is 8x stronger than most other plastics and the powerful gear reduction is equivalent to a 2HP Motor. The dual stage juice processing system extracts the maximum amount of juice from fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, even wheatgrass! You can also use the nutrition center to turn nuts into nut butters (an all-natural peanut butter), make baby food from natural, fresh ingredients, whip up soy milk, extrude pasta, grind coffee and spices, and mince herbs and garlic. Make delicious and nutritious drinks and snacks that everyone will love. Measuring 7in wide, 15.5in deep and 8.5in tall.

  • Masticating juice extractor with powerful single-gear commercial motor
  • Dual-stage juicing; low speed of 80 RPMs means no foaming, clogging, or heat build-up
  • High yield with very dry pulp; auto pulp-ejection for continuous operation
  • Easy to assemble, operate, and clean; UL- and cUL-approved; runs quietly
  • Ships in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging
  • Measures 14-1/2 by 6-1/2 by 15-1/2 inches; 15-year warranty

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KFGS306VSS 30 Gas Cooktop with 5 Sealed Burners - Stainless Steel

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KFGS306VSS 30 Gas Cooktop with 5 Sealed Burners - Stainless Steel

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KFGS306VSS 30 Gas Cooktop with 5 Sealed Burners - Stainless Steel
Great for Wokking and well designed for small kicthen space.
Background you can skip
We purchased our current home about 2 years ago and slowly started replacing the somewhat dated or low-quality appliances that had been left behind for us. Most of it was Frigidaire or Kenmore. Nothing wrong with that, but we wanted to get a better fridge, microwave hood, dishwasher and cooktop. This review, naturally, is about the cooktop only. The other items ware reviewed elsehwere on Amazon.
What were we looking for?
ONE - Well, first of all, we wanted HEAT: we are very much into Asian food and cook mostly in our Wok(s) (see other reviews as well!). This requires high BTU output.
TWO - We wanted an aesthetic stainless steel look, a little more like the professional Bertazzoni or Viking type cooktops.
THREE - Quality. We wanted heavy cast iron grates that would withstand heavy daily use.
FOUR - Space. We needed sufficient space around the wok to be able to cook properly on the high heat burner if using a larger wok (16" or...

Pros and Cons
I've had this cooktop for a couple months now, and here's what I think:

Pros:
1. It looks really cool. Yup, between the five burners and the great grate, it is a piece of art.
2. It cooks just dandy; no complaints.

Cons:
1. The control knobs are slightly higher than the grate, meaning if you put something on the grate and it overlaps the knobs, the ignition clicking is initiated.
2. There is no "on" light in case some inattentive family member (never the main cook, of course!) leaves a burner on low and fails to notice.
3. There is no safety "off" childproof switch. (some GE applicances have this).
4. The Kitchenaid logo piece is three-dimensional and in the lower corner, meaning it is just asking to get dirty and be hard to clean. Flat, or in an upper corner, would have been preferable.

Very nice, but not perfect
From my point of view this was the best looking 30" gas cooktop available when we remodeled (Aug-Nov 2008). After using it for over a year we are still happy with the aesthetics, and generally happy cooking on it, but...

1. It does not simmer out of the box - as a previous reviewer said, its low is not low enough. This is surprising for a relatively expensive cooktop from a reputable company, but there is a fix: The manual (available from the kitchenaid website) explains how to reduce the low setting. You take each knob off while the burner is on and turn a screw. You need a thin long screwdriver - I had to make one from a heavy wire hanger, filing the end to form the screwdriver blade, easier than it sounds. The low setting is now acceptable, but not quite as low as I'd like, though I have not tried to readjust it.

2. Standard 20" double burner griddles don't fit easily. We have to set ours diagonally. I've just found Lodges new 16" long griddles which...

Waring Pro MX1000R Professional 3.5-Horsepower Blender, Black

Waring Pro MX1000R Professional 3.5-Horsepower Blender, Black
Waring MX1000 review
Pros:

Professional smoothies (exactly like Jamba Juice)

Very easy to clean

Polycarbonate carafe

Quick (does its business very quickly)

Cons:

Expensive (not everyone spends $400 on a blender)

Loud (not appropriate for apartment living)

Bulky (its significantly larger than a normal blender)

When I unpacked this blender I knew right away that it is a very serious machine. The base is very large and heavy duty with two large switches. One is for pulse and the other high and low speeds. The engine is rated at 3 horsepower and power cord is very think similar to the cord used on a high power drill or garage tool. The unit itself has a geared metal socket that matches a toothed metal gear built into the carafe. No plastic clutch that can break. The lightweight polycarbonate carafe sits on four posts, but will need you to hold it down with your hand on top for it to work correctly. The blade is...

Handles what others can't!
We have gone through 4 blenders in the last 18 months. We are consumers of high quality products and usually do our research. Each and everyday we make "fruit shakes" for our family of 5. Our mix consists of frozen fruit, sometimes some fresh fruit, yogurt, and oj. Our other blenders burned out, even the Blendtec couldn't handle the job (it automatically shut down on us, plus it couldn't really handle 64 oz. of our mix!). But this guy (okay, it's very masculine looking), can do the job quick and make enough in the mega-sized 64 oz. plus pitcher for all 5 of us (we usually have to make 2 pitchers). Frozen drinks are just about all we use a blender for so for our purposes, this is the only one for us! It's loud, it's scary, it moves about a bit, but it does the job so fast that it doesn't matter that much. It's not that attractive to my eyes, but my DH thinks otherwise. I usually like to store my appliances in cabinets, but this one is too big and heavy to move in and out each...

Super Blender
I got this to replace an Oster blender whose motor burned out. I ordered it without consulting my wife. Initially she was not happy because this one doesn't have all kinds of buttons etc. It is also extremely noisy, you have to hold onto it when using it or it will migrate off the counter, it is heavy, takes up a lot of space, it is pricey, and it can draw 12 amps (don't put it on the same circuit as the microwave!) However, these drawbacks are inconsequential if your principal concern is a product that actually does its job quickly and efficiently. Throw the ingredients in, put on your hearing protectors, turn it on, hold it down, and after 30 seconds or less, you are done. I suppose the pulse switch is useful in some situations but I have yet to need it. The plastic jar is also easier to clean than our old one, which had removable blades. My wife is now a believer even though she hates having to admit I was right! If you don't have hearing protectors I strongly urge you to...

Waring Pro MX1000R Professional Blender
Make smoothies, soups, dips and more
Jar, Lid, Cap
Pitcher features a flexible lid, clear cap and non-slip handle

Waring Pro MX1000R Professional Blender

The heavy-duty Waring Pro MX1000R Specialty Blender is great for blending sauces, soups, desserts, dressings, beverages and more. The motor and large blades crush ice with ease and smoothly blend fruit drinks and soups. In addition to two speed options, a pulse feature makes it easy to create salsa and more. This powerful blender also has a flexible lid that presses tightly in place and features a central clear cap that turns and releases to open when you need to add foods to your mixture. The dishwasher-safe 64-ounce polycarbonate pitcher with non-slip handle provides the capability to make smoothies in bulk.

Control Panel
Easy to use controls
Features
  • Heavy-duty, 3.5 peak horsepower high-performance motor, 30,000+ RPM
  • 64-ounce polycarbonate container
  • Simple High, Low, Off and Pulse paddle switches
  • ETL, NSF listed
How to Use
  1. Before starting, make sure that the blender is unplugged.
  2. With the unit in the Off position, place the container on the blender base. Be sure the container is fully seated and that drive coupling is properly engaged. Plug the blender cord into an outlet.
  3. Put ingredients into the container, being sure not to fill above the Max line. Cover the pitcher. Always hold the container with one hand when starting and while blending. Never operate without the jar lid in place.
  4. Press the paddle switch to the desired speed, be it Hi or Low. To crush ice quickly, use the Hi speed setting. To engage the pulse option, hold the Pulse paddle switch in the lower position. The unit will run on the Hi speed until the paddle switch is released.
  5. When finished blending, set the paddle switch to the Off position.
  6. Allow the motor to come to a complete stop before removing the container from the blender base. Never place the container on the motor base or remove it from the motor base while motor is running.
  7. Once blending is complete and ingredients are removed, wash and dry the container.
Just the size and weight of this blender indicates it is a professional grade workhorse. Weighing 15 pounds and standing 19 inches tall, with an oversized base measuring 9 inches square, the blender takes on a prodigious appearance. The supercharged 3.5 peak horsepower motor and large blades will crush ice with ease and smoothly blend fruit drinks and soups. Only two speeds, high and low, are available, which should cover most needs. The pulse feature is ideal for creating large-particle foods such as homemade salsa and gazpacho.

Squared in shape, the tough polycarbonate pitcher features a very generous nonslip handle and holds 64 ounces of cold liquid, less if hot. The flexible lid presses tightly in place and features a central clear cap that turns and releases to open for adding foods. Two paddle-shape switches make operation easy even if hands are wet. The removable pad that covers the top of the blender base to add nonslip cushioning for the pitcher can be tossed in the dishwasher for cleaning. The four broad legs of the blender are also made of nonslip material to help prevent sliding and make pick-up secure. Because the blade assembly does not unscrew from the pitcher for separate cleaning, the blender pitcher should be washed thoroughly with hot soapy water and a soft scrub brush after each use. --Ann Bieri

  • Professional grade 3.5 peak horsepower blender tackles smoothies, soups, and ice
  • Oversized, weighty base stays put during use
  • 64-ounce polycarbonate pitcher with integrated blades and nonslip handle

KitchenAid Blender RKSB560: White

KitchenAid Blender RKSB560: White

KitchenAid Blender RKSB560: White
Search for the holy blender...
I have been looking for a blender for a few weeks now. We have started making smoothies at home and burned up our old one. Our girls like the "Chocolate Elvis" recipe from the local smoothie place which contains peanutbutter, bananas, yogurt, ice, and milk. I guess this is really hard on blenders. I bought one at Target 2 weeks ago that had "700 watts peak power" on the box. It died in 2 days. The power spec on the bottom of the blender said 450 watts. I think that is false advertisement. I have seen this on 2 different blenders now.

I have been leery of buying any blender with the little plastic teeth couplers because of all the bad reviews here on Amazon. I also wanted to stay away from anything with only 450 watts.

I was in another store and saw this blender. It has a new design for where the blades couple with the motor. "Commercial quality couplers with 12 interlocking teeth....coated for quiet operation".

We have had it for a few days now and...

They Redesigned The Container (carafe)!!!
We bought this Kitchenaid blender over a year ago, and after several months the container started to leak. The leak was small, and we put up with it for awhile. We finally got tired of the mess, however, and called the factory. We were told that the container had been redesigned, and they would send us a new one immediately even though our warranty had expired. When we got the new one we could see that it had indeed been redesigned, and have used it for some time now, and NO LEAKS. A leak proof container plus the other great features of this blender now warrant a definite five stars.

3/24/12 update. Our blender is now five years old, is used every day, and has been problem free since they replaced the container in 2008.

Do Yourself a Favor and Buy this Fantasitc Blender
My husband and I make smoothies almost every single night (as in, 6-7 nights/week), so we're really hard on our blenders. We have been through 4 blenders in the last 3 years alone. We started with a cheap Oster blender, but quickly realized that it was pretty much useless for the thick smoothies we like to make. Next, I bought the Back to Basics Smoothie Elite, which was great for as long as it held up, but as it turned out, that was only 6 months. So, we upgraded to the Back to Basics Smoothie Professional, which was great until I dropped the glass jar into the sink and broke it, only to find that you couldn't buy a new one ANYWHERE so my $120 blender was now worthless.

After all this, I decided to stop fooling around and buy a Kitchenaid. This blender has all the power you need (way more power than any of the first 3 blenders I bought; both the smoothie blenders came with a stir stick, but such a thing isn't even necessary when you have the power of this Kitchenaid),...

When entertaining, keep the smoothies and iced drinks coming with this 0.9 horsepower blender that's built for back-to-back blending. The 56 oz. contoured pitcher slides ingredients into the blade for faster blending. Patented blade strikes at 4 planes for optimum performance. Commercial-grade polycarbonate pitcher is remarkably strong and lightweight and resists temperature extremes and scratches and stains. Push of a button crushes ice evenly and you can pulse at any speed. Puree hot soups, chop thick veggies, and mix smooth batters faster than ever with ultimate consistency and control. Hassle-free 1-year replacement warranty. 7"W X 8 1/2"D x 15 1/2"H. 12 lbs. Model: KSB560.

Kitchen Aid 30 In. Black Electric Range - KESS907SBL
KitchenAid electric range, Model KESS907SSS - our mistake
KITCHENAID RANGE COOLING FAN
1. This KitchenAid cooling fan starts blowing as soon as the oven is turned on, and runs until the oven is turned off, or the convection mode cool down completes.
2. This range cooling fan exhaust area is 8" above the floor and 27" long and reaches at least 5.5 feet out from the front of the range.
3. Anyone in the kitchen while this KitchenAid oven is in use, is subject to a "breeze" on lower legs and feet.
4. The KitchenAid fan exhaust breeze may not be as aggravating in cooler weather, but possibly will be a major issue in warmer weather.
5. Based on friends with competitor ranges, this KitchenAid cooling fan is louder, more annoying, and distracting than those models. We had to increase the volume of the TV in the kitchen to compensate for the fan noise.

After using the oven just once, we told the dealer that we wanted to exchange it for a different manufacturers' range. We would not recommend that this...

Happy with our KitchenAid KESS907SSS
We purchased our stove a few weeks ago and conclude the following:

Two of these reviews are on several sites and I suspect that someone has an ax to grind and is on a writing campaign.

If you try real hard you can feel air coming from the front vents, but it is barely noticeable. Most stoves have front vents and this is not uncommon.

I agree that the angle of the controls could be a little less vertical, but that would leave them more exposed to spills. You can opt for a free standing stove and reach over hot pots to get to the controls.
You would have to be a contortionist to turn the knob and turn on a burner with your hip.

The fan is not any louder than our very expensive Dacor was. Now that was a piece of junk.

We only cook food so nothing condensates so bad that it drips to the floor.

The top is no harder to clean than any other smooth top range. Razor blades are a fact of life with any smooth top and food...

fantastic stove
Looks great. Was concerned with the objections that people wrote online:
--fan: not that loud. Almost everything is louder in the kitchen.
--controls: they do bump on/off easily. solution, lock the controls (which is easy to do and probably the best option for every hip-level appliance when you have toddlers).
--functionality: fantastic so far.

InSinkErator Badger 5XP 3/4 HP Household Garbage Disposer

InSinkErator Badger 5XP 3/4 HP Household Garbage Disposer
No better than the Badger 1/3 HP!
Last year I wrote a good review for my 12 year old Badger 1 unit that I was retiring after 12 years of faithful service. I decided to replace the old unit with another Badger and chose this 5XP model. I had such good luck with with the Badger 1 that I chose to stay with the Badger line, but just upgrade to the more powerful unit. Installation was a breeze as the units were the same size.

I've now had this unit for about one year and unfortunately it does not perform any better than the old unit, in fact it even makes more noise! I still cannot grind very much in it and it appears to be no more powerful than the old unit.

I was expecting a more powerful unit that could perhaps handle a little more bulk than the Badger 1. What I got was basically the same unit as the Badger 1, just a little louder now.

Leaks
I have a badger 5 and it developed a crack. I did some research and found lots of people with this problem. Stay away from this product

Rusted out in 6 months!
Do not purchase a disposer with a galvanized steel blade mechanism. 6 months old and it is completely rusted out! Garbage!

Dispose of chicken bones, fruit rinds, and other food matter with ease using the Badger 5XP household food waste disposer from InSinkErator. As the most advanced model in the company's Badger line of food waste disposers, the Badger 5XP has a powerful 3/4 horsepower induction motor and a galvanized steel construction for long-lasting durability. A compact design gives you extra space under your sink, while a twist-on Quick Lock sink mount enables easy installation. Get Rid of Food Waste with Ease
Using the InSinkErator Badger 5XP food waste disposer, you can put chicken bones, fruit rinds, coffee grounds, and other food matter right into your kitchen sink. The machine virtually liquefies foods before they flow safely to your sewage system or septic tank. As a result, you can get rid of food waste without fuss while producing less bagged garbage.

Steel Construction and Powerful 3/4 Horsepower Motor
The Badger 5XP features a rugged galvanized steel construction along with a quiet yet heavy-duty 3/4 horsepower Dura-Drive induction motor. The disposer uses a one-stage grinding system and is designed to be hard-wired and controlled by a wall switch.

Quick Lock Sink Mount for Easy Installation
Like all InSinkErator food waste disposers, to simplify the installation process, the Badger 5XP sports a three-bolt Quick Lock sink mount made of stainless steel. If you have an existing food waste disposer, you can likely just twist it off and twist on the Badger 5XP. With Quick Lock, replacing one InSinkErator disposer with another is easy.

Economical and
Compared with other installed kitchen appliances, food waste disposers cost little to operate. InSinkErator Badger disposers use an average of just one gallon of water per person per day, or less than 1 percent of a typical household's total water consumption. They also use an average of three to four kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which typically amounts to less than 50 cents.

In addition, food waste disposers offer an alternative to simply sticking food waste in the garbage can. For those on a sewage system, grinding the waste with the disposer sends it to the local municipal wastewater treatment plant, where it can often processed into bio-solids for use as fertilizer or recycled to produce methane, a renewable source of energy.

GE FUF14SVRWW 13.7 cu. Ft. Upright Freezer - White
Great freezer for the garage for a family of 4 - 6
I recently purchased this GE upright frost free freezer from Home Depot for $[...]- delivered (model FUF14SVRWW). Having used it for a few weeks now, I realized that the priced at Amazon for $588 is not unreasonable, if they take off shipping.

Link:
[...]

I have heard complains that this freezer is noisy and humms loudly. Unless you plan to have this freezer sitting in your kitchen, this is a non-issue. Sitting in the garage, we just enjoy the extra cold storage. The frost free feature means we no longer have smaller and smaller storage as the months turn around, and we are starting to like it saving us time from defrosting and clean up from time to time.

The lock feature is good if you have small kids at home. At least this will eliminate a spot for what might turn out to be a deadly 'hide and seek' game.

The finishing is much more refine than the earlier models, the baskets at the bottom and door compartments makes for easy and...

GREAT LITTLE FREEZER
Considered this and purchased at HD in early July (7 weeks ago), put it on my patio. It has worked out very well, not that loud - it hums along when its on, but its not like LOUD - no way. Holds a lot of stuff - I organize it in cardboard boxes by type, has worked perfectly so far, but just in case, got the extended warranty. The outside does get warm (as mentioned in the comments) but it is not hot. If you read the manual, it is supposed to get warm that's how it gets rid of the excess heat to cool the interior. That is normal. So don't go piling stuff on top or you cut down on the efficiency. My only complaint is not with the freezer itself, but with HD and their outsource delivery service. I told them I did not want it deliv 1st thing in the morning. I told them 3 times b/c I have scheduling problem that early. What did they do? Scheduled me as the first stop. It was a problem trying to reach a live person as they were on their way here, but did finally get them to turn...

cant complain
This freezer work great, I have had for several months. I wouldn't have this in the house as it is NOISY !

This freezer is equipped with 8 total shelves to provide plenty of room for a variety of frozen foods. The frost-free design does away with the messy and time consuming chore of defrosting.
