LG LDS5540ST
Somewhat Satisfied
The LG LDS5540ST is a new dishwasher for LG. After buying the top rated Consumer Reports Dishwasher (the Bosch),
I returned it for the new LG. The Bosch was smaller and had no flexibility with the tines; it was like doing
a jigsaw puzzle every time I loaded it. I was impressed with the LG initially with the all Stainless Steel
inside & outside, simple controls that you can see on the front, and the flexibility of the tines.
I have owned an LG clothes washer and dryer for several years with which we have been very happy. This dishwasher
is so quiet that it is difficult to even hear it working; a big contrast to the 10 year old GE that it replaced.
I discovered, after a service call, that the only cycle where the water is actually heated is the final
rinse; since there is no heating element at the bottom, a fan blows the hot air around after the rinse cycle to dry the dishes.
It works fairly well as long as you use rinse aid; some water...
Cleans great, very quiet.
Just got this delivered and installed today. It's currently washing it's second load. It did a great job on the first batch of dishes. One thing I noticed is that with the "Hybrid Drying System", the dishes don't come out so hot you can't touch them. They were perfectly dry and just warm to the touch.
I'll say this. So far so good. Allow me to put some context on this review. This dishwasher replaced a Bosch SHY66C05UC. At the time we bought it, it was the most expensive dishwasher that Sears sold. In my experience, dishwashers tend to be an appliance you take for granted. Over the years, I can't recall ever having a dishwasher repaired. The Bosch was great for the first 3 years. Years 4-8 were an entirely different experience. I had at least one major failure per year with it. The electronics on it finally went out right before Christmas this year and rather then spend $350 to replace the failed part, I decided enough was enough. My point? Try to find a review on the above...
Quiet! Cleans Awesome! Dishes come out Dry!
We just had to replace our 4 year old GE dishwasher (We decided against paying $100 trip charge, plus parts/labor to repair it ..est. $350). After considering the top rated Bosch, we decided to go for the LG LDS5540ST instead. (The Bosch seems little, is configured strange and didn't feel substancial). We love the Stainless Steel inside and out, Nylon racks, simple controls, and the flexibility of the tines on this model - also, we bought an LG washer and dryer last year and have been very happy.
Specifics:
First:This dishwasher is soooooooo quiet; you can hear the water (sounds like it is raining), but not the motor; a big contrast to the not even 5 year old GE that it replaced.
Second:Even though there is no heating element in the bottom, the dishes actually come out DRY! What a concept. (The key here is to use a rinse aid per the manual).
Third: Adjustable top rack! Super easy to raise and lower.. (now those tall pans can be accomodated!)
Fourth:...
