My disposal came with 4 wires hanging out of its wiring compartment.

1. Yellow-black with permanent cap on its end.
2. Stripped red wire.
3. Stripped black wire.
4. Stripped white wire.

After making numerous phone calls over a 2-week period to KitchenAid and the OEM who made it for them, it was decided to send out a service tech to my house. After 2 hours of wire tracing and phone calls, the tech determined that the OEM manufacturer should have twisted the red an yellow-black wires together, permanently capped them and tucked them away from consumer view.

This batch-feed model is very quiet compared to its 15 year old design that I'm replacing. Rather than use a mechanical on-off switch, this model uses a simple magnetic switch that goes click-click. One side of the stopper is for turning the unit on & off. The other side is for normal water drainage.

Great Features for Special Needs
Because of physical restrictions, we were looking for a replacement garbage disposal that could be controlled without reaching for a wall switch. This product has all the convenience, power and quietness features that can be crammed into one garbage disposer. The magnets that control the on-off switch are integrated in the cover which makes for effortless operation and absolutely prevents accidental insertion of hands or hardware during operation of the garbage disposal. Well worth the premium price.

Great Product
It's hard to believe that a new garbage disposal could make me so happy! It's everything that is advertised - quiet, efficient and, according to my husband, easy to install. My only quibble with the process is that I had to purchase it through a third party so my purchase wasn't eligible for free shipping.
