Danby DWC172BL 1.8-Cu.Ft. 17-Bottle Counter-Top Wine Cooler, Black

Danby DWC172BL 1.8-Cu.Ft. 17-Bottle Counter-Top Wine Cooler, Black

Danby DWC172BL 1.8-Cu.Ft. 17-Bottle Counter-Top Wine Cooler, Black
Good value, not for long term storage
I did a bit of research before deciding to purchase the Danby. The price was right and reviews of other makes tended to say things like "stopped working after n months". Also, the thermoelectric technology on many of the other makes doesn't seem to be able to keep things cool if the temperature reaches above 85 or 90, which is quite easy to achieve in NY during the summer. The Danby has an old tech compressor which is time tested and should be reliable for years. The major problem is vibration. When it's running the thing vibrates the wine bottles excessively. This is bad for long term evolution of wine. But, if you have bottles for long term this thing is way too small to begin with. My long term stuff is in a wine storage facility. The other problem is the temperature control. Wine shoud be stored at 53-55deg. At the very, very lowest setting (knob turned to just above where it turns off) it varies between 49-53deg, as tested by a Taylor 1458 wireless temp/humidity gauge. A little...

DO NOT waste your money or time
This isn't even worth it for a basic collector. There isn't a temperature display, but the large problem here is that the temperature control switch offers NO range at all. You could for example set it to highest or lowest settings and get no difference AT All in actual temperature. Not only that but the temperature is too cold for red wine to be properly stored. I hate to be a perfectionist here but hey, isn't that why we buy these things in the first place? I've spoken with other former owners of this hassle of a cooler and heard the same review. The best part was when I called to tell Danby of the problem customer service told me the problem was an isolated problem they've never had before and that the temperature should be able to be adjusted. SO I sent back and received another, then another. None of them ever got warmer (or colder) than 45 degrees and I have sent it back a final time. KEEP SHOPPING AROUND!

So far, so good
This reasonably priced, sturdy refrigerator seems to be doing the job it advertised. A great value for this discounted price, it is also an attractive item for your kitchen, bar or pantry. I don't know if they had Houdini doing the counting, though...I cannot possibly imagine how one could configure it into holding SEVENTEEN (!) bottles of wine!

Danby's DWC172BL 1.8 Cu. Ft. 17-Bottle Counter-Top Wine Cooler is a compact wine cooler that takes up little space but offers big storage. The counter top design provides a convenient and economical alternative to chilling wine in the fridge. The molded scratch-resistant worktop provides additional storage for accessories. The all black cabinet and tempered glass door with reversible hinge will suit almost any decor.

  • 17-Bottle (1.8 cu. ft.) capacity
  • Shatter resistant tempered glass door
  • Auto-cycle defrost
  • 2 Full Width Vinyl Coated Wire Shelves
  • 1 Staggered vinyl coated wire shelf

Gorgeous and worth the cost!
The only bad thing i can say about this item is that one of the rubber foots/feet came off when putting the item into its area. It was resolved by just putting the foot back where it broke from and it doesnt wobble or anything. I dont know if they sell replacement feet or not but it wasnt worth my time trying to get it fixed when i had it for 2 hours.

This unit is wonderful to look at and i enjoy the large size and the ability to look into the fridge and seeing all my wonderful bottles of wine! The racks only really hold the normal sized bottles and not the large ones or some of my champagne bottles. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how open bottles can still be put back into the fridge without spilling or leaking (by not being on its side but at an angle), but that was the biggest selling point for me with this fridge. I looked for others and could not find any with this feature under 1k.

A drawback: the door doesnt quite seem to open far enough to easily allow the racks to...

Great Product So Far! Quiet Unit Indeed!
Ok, so I just picked this up a few days ago at my local retailer (they had this unit on sale for %50 off) and I have to admit, this unit has been running pretty good. Now, I selected this unit based on several factors:

1) Wine Capacity
2) Open Wine Storage
3) Noise Level

This unit can accommodate up to 29 bottles (5 bottles per rack). The racks have a little trouble sliding out, but it's no biggie if you like to look at the wines individually (which is my preference). The bottom rack can be used for either oversized bottles like Champagne or you can store open bottles at the bottom (they are tilted at an angle) which is great so you do not have to take up room in your kitchen refrigerator. Another thing I like about this unit, it's very quiet. When you do hear the compressor turn on, it's only audible for about 3 - 5 seconds before it quiets down. If you are hosting a party or if you have some audible noise in the background, it will not be heard...

Great wine fridge
I've had this wine fridge about 9 months now and am very happy with it. I researched quite a bit before the purchase and liked the idea that this unit was actually by an "appliance" company, not some other company just making/marketing a product for a niche market.

Very quiet, barely/never hear the compressor cycle on when it starts the cooling cycle. Has 3 settings, red, white, and custom. External digital readout indicates the temperature stays within 1 degree up/down of the set point (haven't actually put a thermometer inside to verify the inside temp with the readout). Shelves have adequate spacing, no problems there. Nice sharp look in black and silver, and there's a cool interior bluish light you can turn of if you want to (it automatically turns off after a set time).

Got it on sale from major box store for $395 + tax, free delivery. Real happy with the purchase, price and capacity. When it's almost full I know it's time to stop buying wine or start...

Vinotemp VT-BC58SB Built-In or Freestanding Beverage Cooler
Vinotemp- Does not keep beverages cold, Ruined my new floors, No Customer Service
My Vinotemp experience:

On July 10th 2012 I ordered a Vinotemp beverage cooler and it arrived in not working order I sent the cooler back to Amazon.com and they mailed me another one on July 16th 2012. I did not hook the cooler up until the later part of September since this was for a new kitchen build. I used the cooler to store water and beverages in my kitchen Island. From the first week I noticed the unit was not cooling well and had trouble maintaining a suitable temperature for my beverages it cooled between 45 to 50 degree's which is a warm soda. The unit later started to build condensation on the back and the cooling continued to worsen. I then noticed that ice was building up inside the unit. I put a towel down on the floor and inside the unit as soon as I noticed the ice building up in the back of the unit, in case it leaked out. I then inspected my floor and noticed damage to laminate. I called vinotemp and this is the start of the issues (amazon.com said...

Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black

Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black

Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black
Noisy, but nice
I like this wine fridge, so far, though when its compressor runs, it is noisy. I'm hoping it will last longer than my last Vinotemp, which was thermoelectric (unlike this one).

PROS
----
room inside for large, upright, or corked bottles, flexible
well packed for shipment (better than R. Sayre's! -- mine shipped from Amazon)
nice looking
door works smoothly
more cooling power

CONS
----
noisy (when the compressor kicks in, it hums)
some vibration from the compressor
wide (I have room for it, but you'd better check the dimensions)
only one temperature zone

I'm adding a special note about the packing because of R. Sayre's bad experience with doors getting ripped off. Mine, shipped from Amazon to here in Hawaii, was protected by styrofoam in an inner box, then that was suspended with foam corner offsets and more styrofoam panels within a larger box. And it arrived undamaged.

My old...

Just a touch noisy but works great
This unit replaces a small Avanti thermoelectric cooler, which while quiet, regularly blew its electrolytic capacitors. In comparison, this unit is a little bit of an upgrade, having a better control panel for the temperature. It is a little noisy, but only to be expected.

doesn't survive shipping
I tried twice with this order, and Amazon was quick with the replacement. But both coolers were destroyed during shipping. Had it survived shipping, the cooler appeared nice (though not rugged) and looked like it would serve my purposes (I particularly liked the flexible configuration and apparent capacity to hold longer/fatter bottles by standing them up. But there was very little cushioning in the packaging. Consequently the door was shattered / torn off the hinge when it arrived in both orders. Guess I'll look for it in a physical store. I wouldn't ordinarily downgrade for a shipping problem, but unless they change the packaging (or unless UPS handles the box with extraordinary delicacy), I don't think there's a likelihood yours will arrive intact. I order a lot from Amazon, and this is the first time I've run into a problem like this with a product.
